Mazda Proves It’s Actually Easy Being Green with New Zinc Green Metallic

June 30th, 2026 by

Normally a new paint color wouldn’t be a big deal, but Mazda lovers will be thrilled over Mazda’s new Zinc Green Metallic, which was unveiled recently at a Mazda Miata meetup in Japan.

You’ll see it soon on the Mazda MX-5 Miata, Mazda’s standout sports car. Our manufacturer reminds us that Mazda has always offered a green, going back into the ‘90s – CarScoops says the number over the years is 80 greens. Mazdas have come in everything from bright spring green to iconic British Racing Green, which makes sense since it reportedly was inspired by the Lotus Elan. But this is the first fourth-gen Miata to green up.

CarBuzz said that the only thing the Miata has been missing is color, since it’s been available largely in muted hues of black, grey and white. Well, Zinc Green Metallic offers some color, although it isn’t screamingly bright. As Mazda describes it:

Zinc Green was developed as a lifestyle color, similar to the well-received Polymetal Gray Metallic. Under bright sunlight, it reveals a vibrant and rich expression, ranging from highlights to deep shades. In lower-light conditions, it takes on a more subdued, grayish appearance with a sense of solidity and an almost matte quality … It is a compelling color that will further help the vehicle stand out.

Mazda says the new Miata roadster’s paint color grew out of zinc chromate primer, an industrial coating. The color-shifting quality comes from bluish metallic flakes. The goal was for the new color to be equally at home in urban and outdoor environments.

Both the Miata ND MX-5 soft top and MX-5 RF retractable hardtop will have Zinc Green Metallic as a choice. Smart money says that Zinc Green Metallic will soon be available on other models, as well. We’re not sure when the Miata in Zinc Green Metallic will be available at Schomp Mazda. The sooner the better!
