The Experts Know a Great Car When They See One: Mazda!

March 3rd, 2022 by

It’s often not easy to distinguish among the many vehicle brands. What qualities are going to make consumers want to get behind the wheel of your vehicles?  That’s why people consult expert reviewers. It’s gratifying that experts frequently single out Mazda for notice:

  • The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave its highest safety rating – Top Safety Pick+ – to ALL Mazda vehicles it tested in 2021. Every. Single. One.

  • U.S. News & World Report named Mazda its overall “Best Car Brand” for 2021 – for the sixth consecutive year.

  • Consumer Reports’ 2021 Best Brand was Mazda

What Does Top Safety Pick+ Really Mean?

We know that in a world increasingly congested, and intent on getting from place to place as quickly as possible, safety is more important than ever. Automakers keep improving the stability and strength of their vehicles as well as advanced driver assistance technology. Mazda has done an outstanding job in this arena.

To receive the Top Safety Pick+ designation, Mazda had to get “Good” scores on all of the IIHS crash tests, including the passenger-side small overlap front test (think hitting a phone pole off-center); plus get a “Good” or “Acceptable” rating for headlights, which must be standard on all variants/trim levels; plus get front crash prevention ratings in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-pedestrian accidents of either “Advanced” or “Superior.”

Ticking all those boxes is tough. Mazda is up to the task and is the only brand that did it across the board. And in fact, the 2021 CX-5 was the only vehicle to receive the highest rating in the side impact test.

What Makes the Best Car Brand?

U.S. News & World Report cites two factors: “published reviews from respected automotive critics ad data from third party sources.” Each class is weighted by the factors that are most appropriate to its class. Sports cars and SUVs are different.

The Mazda3, Mazda6, and MX-5 Miata were among the highest-rated. According to Executive Editor Jamie Page, “All three models have top-notch performance that puts an emphasis on direct, sporty handling, as well as quality interiors that are more upscale than their price tags might suggest.”

Consumer Reports – the respected independent consumer testing agency – ranked its choice of Mazda in 2021 based on road tests (50), reliability, owner satisfaction, and safety.
