Why Mazda Is Synonymous with Safety – the Proof Is in the Tests

June 2nd, 2022 by

Vehicle safety is a big deal at Mazda. Americans have become much more concerned with how well their vehicles will protect them in various crash situations. And in the last several years, performance on those tests has become a major selling point.

So pardon us if we brag a bit.

Who Tests?

There are two testing agencies, the federal government’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), which rates vehicles on crashworthiness and issues of up to five stars. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) also conducts crash tests and recognizes standouts with one of two awards: Top Safety PICK and Top Safety PICK+.

Mazda Top of the Pile on Government Tests

ALL 2022 Mazda vehicles tested in the NHTSA New Car Assessment Program have received the agency’s top 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score. That includes one of Mazda’s newest entries, its first battery-electric vehicle, the 2022 Mazda MX-30. In addition to the overall 5-Star rating, the MX-30 got 5 Stars in the frontal and side crash tests. When you add the 2022 MX-30’s environmental friendliness to its safety features, it’s easy to see why it may just be the perfect urban vehicle.

Insurance Testers Give Mazda High Marks

IIHS Top Safety PICK+ designations have been earned by the 2022 Mazda3 Sedan and Hatchback, Mazda6, CX-3, CX-30, CX-5, and most recently the CX-9. This was the second year that the IIHS ran vehicles through a new, tougher side-crash test. Both the 2021 CX-9 and 2021-22 CX-5 earned “Good” marks in this side-crash test – the CX-5 was the only small SUV cited. In the Midsize SUV class, the CX-9 was one of only two models to get a “Good” rating in every test category.

“Our research has led us to thoughtfully consider the body structure of our vehicles, creating the robust designs we have on the road today,” said Mazda Manager of Vehicle Safety Compliance, Planning, & Development Jennifer Morrison. “We are proud to offer our consumers the highest level of protection in the event of a crash.”

So, yes, we’re bragging. Mazda vehicles are built for safety, and we’re proud of it. But Mazdas are also beautiful, comfortable, and economical. Visit Schomp Mazda on Havana and we’ll be happy to show you.
